Early Career Professionals Appointed to ASPB Committees

APPLY HERE

Help shape the future of ASPB by applying to become an Early Career Representative (ECR) on an ASPB standing committee. This exciting opportunity for ECRs to get directly involved in ASPB’s governance involves a two-year appointment. In the second year, ECR reps will also serve as the ASPB committee representative to the Early Career Plant Scientists’ Section Council and will be expected to mentor the first-year ECR newly appointed to the same committee.

The following committees each will appoint an early career professional – defined as an ASPB member in good standing who began their graduate studies no more than eight years ago.

  • Council
  • Education Committee
  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
  • International Committee
  • Membership Committee
  • Program Committee
  • Publications Committee
  • Science Policy Committee
  • Women in Plant Biology Committee

Each appointee will serve two consecutive years, starting on October 1, 2024. Visit the ASPB committees page (you will need your member login information) for additional information about the committees and their missions, how often they meet, and to see rosters of current committee members. You can also read what it is like to serve as an Early Career Representative on different ASPB Committees in question-and-response documents written by current ECRs.

The application consists of a CV and a short cover letter that describes the applicant’s reasons for applying, prior preparation – including service to ASPB – and a discussion of how this service will contribute to their career goals. A letter of support from the applicant’s current supervisor must be submitted separately.

Applications are due no later than July 7, 2024 at 11:59 pm Eastern.

Please note that regardless of when you submit your applications, notifications regarding acceptance onto a committee will not be sent out until late July/early August 2024.

If you have any questions or issues with the application, please contact Shoshana Kronfeld (shoshana@aspb.org).
